The pressure switch is the most commonly replaced component on a jet pump. The pressure switch is the "brains" of the pump and must be operating correctly for the system to operate. I replaced the pressure switch on the jet pump due to an increasing number of 20-30sec dropouts in pressure. Based on other comments on the board I expected to see the fitting in the pump for the pressure switch clogged and it was (The 1/4" opening had only about 1/16" clear before the cleaning started).
The air pressure in the well tank, when empty of all water, must be set to 38 psi or the switch will not operate properly. Turns pump on at 40 psi, off at 60 psi. Cap removes for easy adjustment. With the pump OFF and all water pressure drained from the system the pressure tank would be pre-charged with air pressurized to 2 psi below the pressure control-switch CUT-IN pressure (e.g. 18 psi at a 20 psi cut-in setting).
Setting the cut-out pressure above the pump's capacity can cause the pump to run continuously. Check / change pressure switch pressure settings to correct adjustment for cut-in and cut-out. Normally we see about 20 psi between cut-in and cut-out pressures. Lower the pump cut-out pressure setting. If the pump stops, this was the problem. See: BiEqej.
